The Happy IT Guy is a passion project of Bo Cash, with a mission to bring technology to individuals in poverty-stricken regions. Bo's mission is to refurbish old computers and donate them to those in need.
Bo has always been passionate about technology and helping others. He has combined these two interests to create The Happy IT Guy. Bo takes no longer used, donated computers and replaces any broken parts to ensure they are in working order, upgrading them all to a super fast Solid State Hard Drive. Each computer is then installed with a free and open-source operating system such as Linux Mint or PopOS!, and given to someone in need, free of cost with no licensing fees.
Measuring the digital divide
On average, students with broadband home internet access report an overall grade point average of 3.18 – significantly higher than the average 2.81 GPA for students with no access and the 2.75 average for students who have only a cell phone internet access, according to multiple scholarly studies conducted throughout the United States the past year.
